Travel & Safety
The first priority for the UNM Office of International Programs & Studies is the health and safety of our students on international study programs.
However, ultimately UNM students are responsible for their own health and safety. Resources are available for students to research and become as prepared as possible for any situation. Some countries where students visit will require specific immunizations, while others have no requirements. Students should contact the Travel Health Clinic at the UNM Student Health and Counseling Center to make an appointment at least two months before leaving the country.
Students should also read the information on the US government's Center For Disease Control Web site for the specific countries they will be visiting.
There is good information on health and safety at the Center for Global Education. Check out the Study Abroad Student Handbook for country-specific information. Students are strongly urged, when traveling, to be aware of political situations that may effect their safety. The U.S. State Department has a new page dedicated to students traveling abroad. It is a very good idea to check all English speaking government's Web sites for traveler's warnings.
